Having to buy access

to come before God
to enter his gates
having to buy access
this is what Christ saw
God’s temple a place of commerce
not open to all
some kept out, unworthy
the poor, the oppressed
those who were different
unable to pay admission
separated from God
this was the source of Christ’s anger;
Condemnation on us all

speaking of the Methodist Movement as a
Resistance Movement,
something that made some people very uncomfortable,
including one long-time Methodist who probably was thinking of John Wesley’s words, “Make all you can, save all you can, give all you can.”
