Reason and Passion

the ancient brains
newer tissues
layers upon layer
in the human mind
the tension of the spirit
reason and passion
thought and emotion
ever in tension
living together
sometimes opposition
defining who we are
how we will act
in a world to close
neighbor abutting neighbor
sometimes the passions
cause us to explode
