In the lee of the stone

in the middle, the current
yet slack at the margin
in the lee of the stone
a deep cool pool
under the oak branches
the meander, languid
slow-moving waters
an ancient trout lurking
in the murky deep
in the lee of the stone, comfort
a respite, a slowing
memory of summer
decades ago.
