the way John approached
Jesus
a deep connection
a change in the roles
watching them together
cousins, both on the way
one preparing for the other
the one the light, the
Way
watching them fall
into the water in baptism
the sky opening up
as they breached the
surface again
staggered as they were
rising
a rift in the heavens
the Spirit of God
descending
falling bodily on Jesus
the weight of the world
rising from the waters
from the River Jordan
hearing a voice from
heaven
anointing Jesus as God’s
son
the One who was foretold
