don’t carry anger
don’t spew hate
don’t speak bile
shouted out
we carry the words
that leave our lips
what would be the picture
they would project
don’t speak bile
lift them up
your family, our neighbors
all those we love
the words we speak
take on a life all their own
the stings eternal
though we deny their power.
