people are sheep

how quickly they burn

the palms of Palm Sunday

how quickly they turn to ashes

right before our eyes

like the mob of Palm Sunday

singing, shouting, “Hosanna”

how quickly they turned

and angrily shouted,

“Crucify!” on Friday.

the only explanation

that people are sheep

the mob on the street

the mob in the square

it is amazing how fast

the palms burn; how quickly

our joy turns to ashes,

how quickly “Hosannas!”

turned to “Crucify!”
