Soon the walls will be
buried
the old stone structures
under the lichen, the moss,
the leaves, the needles
buried under the snow
Now merely obscured
their straight edges muted
the boundaries merely hidden
under the weight of autumn
under the leaves of this
season
The leaves of this season
added
to the litter on the ground
the nesting places for many
keeping warm under the
layers
on the lee of the hillside
The straight lines marking
boundaries no longer with
meaning
in another season
in another time
when others worked this land
