might this be our last day

The sabers rattling, rhetoric flying, unchecked, unabated
leading to one place, a cataclysm, Armageddon;
a nuclear explosion, the world on fire, people dying
the twelve hour time difference defining the nightmare
a half a world away, on the dark side, tonight already;
tomorrow a holiday for us, tomorrow for their party
parades and missiles, the fusillade unending
dark skies on the horizon, blood in the air.
