We say we are Christians

We say we are Christians
but our actions betray us
We do nothing that emulates Christ
We judge others, we gather wealth
we set others apart, outside our hearts
indicting all who claim the name of Christ.

We say we are Christians
the name that we love, that we cherish
becomes an indictment, a charge
placed on our hearts, a challenge, a curse
an epithet spoke against all of us
all who claim the name of Christ.

whitewashed Christians
Matthew 23:27-28 (The Message)
““You’re hopeless, you religion scholars and Pharisees! Frauds!
You’re like manicured grave plots, grass clipped and the flowers bright,
but six feet down it’s all rotting bones and worm-eaten flesh.
People look at you and think you’re saints, but beneath the skin
you’re total frauds.”
