the fingers of the leaf

buffeted by the wind

pierced by the ice, the sleet,

torn but resilient

the fingers of the leaf

wrapped around the twig

as the wind relented

ripped and torn

twisted and turning

by the wind’s resurgence

holding on for dear life

as the leaf is able
