why do we have to learn the hard way

Why are we so broken,

so stubborn, so headstrong

not listening to the wisdom

of our elders, of others;

Why do we have to

learn the hard way

being burned, injured

wandering a dark path alone;

Why can’t we listen to

the wisdom of others

those who have walked

this same path before us?
