explicit on the cross

the cry of Jesus
implicit in the Garden,
explicit on the cross;
why me, Lord, God,
must you take my life
here on the cross

take this cup
this burden, this sorrow
if it be your will;
why, Lord, God,
have you left me alone
upon this cross

this prayer of the people,
this Psalm, this scripture
raised up by Jesus
spoken by Christ
whispered in the Garden
shouted on the cross
