A Sprout in the Desert
“Sharing the New Creation”

Jesus
appears to the disciples
19 It was still the first
day of the week. That evening, while the disciples were behind closed doors
because they were afraid of the Jewish authorities, Jesus came and stood among
them. He said, “Peace be with you.” 20 After
he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. When the disciples saw the
Lord, they were filled with joy. 21 Jesus said to
them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father sent me, so I am sending
you.”22 Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive
the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins,
they are forgiven; if you don’t forgive them, they aren’t forgiven.”
Good Morning! It seems
to me that the scripture that states “and a child shall lead them” has been so
evident in our sanctuary over the past couple weeks. Last week…Nolan gave us a
message about how we are to not see color…only see another human being… And now
this week we have children coming to share with us to not fear because God is
with us and keeps His promises. WE think we are teaching the younger generation
but what happens is we are the ones who seem to be being taught… Yes…out of the
mouths of babes…
We have embarked on our
journey into the desert places. We have asked for the “Healing Rain” to fall
upon not only the land in which we are going but also in our own lives so that
we may be filled to overflowing and be poured out onto a desolate, arid land.
We have als looked at what we bring into that land as protection… We bring our
Armor that God has equipped us with. We are “Armed and Dangerous” …ready
to face he perils of this land in which we are planting…looking for…sprouts of
hope…of joy…of peace…and of love.
We are called to share
the New Creation within us with the hurting world around us… “Share
and Share Alike” … Jesus is clear in the John Scripture from this
morning, what we are called to do as His light bearers in the world. We are
given the Holy Spirit and with being equipped as such we are to do. You see He
was sent to free the captives of oppression…captives of this world…captives of
sin…we too are sent as He was…
Unfortunately, we can
tend to be blinded. We are going about sharing the Gospel but miss the ones
that we are to be reaching. I think that sometimes it is an honest mistake…we
are trying so hard for the kingdom that we don’t see the Kingdom right in front
of us. We are so wrapped up in being that voice in the wilderness that we miss
those who are needing a word of hope…of peace…of love…of joy…but mostly of
acceptance.
But other times…it is
because of fear. We fear the unknown. We don’t know this or that person. This
or that person is different. Those or that person really doesn’t want to change
so I am not going to try to be that change agent for them…it’s a waste of our
time… If I look the other way, I won’t have to engage with them. This is
because we are looking through the eyes of the world. We are letting the world
get into our head and tell us who is worthy and who is not.
The disciples were
behind locked doors because of fear. Jesus came to them and pronounced peace over
them and gave them a precious gift…the Holy Spirit…that freed them from the
oppression of fear in order to go out into the world with the Gospel…with their
testimonies…to the world in need of Good News. Unfortunately, we have let our
fear oppress us again and we are again behind locked doors for fear of “them”.
They were to share the New Creation…the New Life offered in and through Jesus
Christ. We too are commissioned to do the same as Christ Followers… We will talk about the difference between
Christians and Christ Followers another day but know this…there is a
difference…
Church…if we are to
share the “Healing Rain”…If we are to see the “Sprout in the Desert”…We must
not only go out “Armed and Dangerous” with the weapons of war…we also need to
have the right eye wear…the Eyes of God…in order to see all of this because the
enemy has a awesome smoke show for us so that the truth gets distorted and we
count on our own…carnal vision instead of the eternal vision we are offered… sort of a bonus to our already awesome
equipment… As we look through the eyes of God our whole out look changes
and we can be the change agents we want other to be. There are those who are
waiting for God to show up…He shows up when we do…
