a hole cut out of the universe – v3

all of our days were rolled flat
a sheet of buttermilk-biscuit dough
a giant hand hovering
over our days, our lives,
the dangling sword of Damocles
 
a hole cut out of the universe
minutes turning to days, to years
our lives in statis, inertia,
furtively going forward, living,
a cut-off, truncated life
 
the year of the pandemic
locked down, masked-up
lost days, opportunities,
not venturing out, frozen,
in our confusion and fear
