Before his giant cell phone

Before he had that cell phone,
huge at the beginning,
They had a ritual, a practice, a protocol,
whenever she needed a few things...
 
Dad would always say he would remember
if it was three items or less, but
He needed a list for four or more.
 
Off he would go to the grocery store,
getting what she asked for,
according to the list...
 
But he knew her well enough,
he had walked this path before,
Before he returned home her called her
from the pay phone out front...
