rising from the black soil,
a picture of resolve, of beauty,
eyes that have seen so much sorrow,
suffering of her homeland, Ukraine…
a heart open to sacrifice,
a life of service and pain,
marshalling forces together,
to heal her homeland, Ukraine…
her same story repeating,
the subjugation of this people,
struggling for independence, freedom,
my black-haired maiden, Ukraine…
too long has she suffered,
the fight they are fighting,
so much sorrow, so much pain,
suffering of her homeland, Ukraine…
but God goes with each of them,
sustaining them in this battle, raging,
struggling for independence, freedom,
my black-haired maiden, Ukraine…
