May their deaths not be in vain – v2

For each life cut short by war,
we pray a prayer over their memory,
may the Heroes leave a legacy,
may a just peace rise in their land,
their flag flying on every flagpole,
their joy on high, complete...
 
May their deaths not be in vain...
all of their best sons and daughters,
these defenders of their homeland,
those who accepted the challenge,
as Shevchenko wrote of, bravery,
speaking power through their lives,
Ukraine’s children, honored dead...
 
May we sing of the Heroes,
may we join with the kobzars,
the maidens, the mothers,
may their legacy be peace,
calm within their nation,
at rest within their graves...
