the whisper of
Burns, her poet,
within my spirit, unfamiliar,
A muse of their legacy,
the bard of my people
calling me mightily,
standing in the cottage,
the room where he was born…
a cadence, a repeating verse,
“a hope, a prayer, a wish, a promise…”
Breathing a breath prayer
a poem for another
a hope, a promise,
in the Highland air…
audible within me,
quickening my spirit,
a stirring within
Calls me yet,
an echo of his musings
within my chest…
his voice mixing with mine
alive within me…
Call to me quickly
Give me words to share
whispered to me, through me,
o’er my ancestral homeland…

I visited the birthplace of Robert Burns in Scotland in 1999.
That was where I started writing my 1st poem...
