She is wailing, weeping,
her body wracked in pain,
in your turning from her,
loving other lovers,
forgetting all she is,
all she was to you, Ukraina…
 
Don’t forget your mother,
my brothers, my sisters,
This I beg you, please,
remember Ukraina’s past,
her ancient glory, now
wearing another’s valor…
 
Stay true to her memory,
“let your mother smile with pleasure”,
as you turn back to your first love,
by the Dnipro, on the heights,
remembering your own story,
the glory of Ukraina…
 
Learn your own stories,
don’t adopt another,
Cleave to your mother, forever,
Break the chains, the fetters,
that hold you from her,
oh, return to your mother,
your first love, Ukraine…
