The Strangest Winter

The lilacs budding,
as is the magnolia
the ground bare,
except for the downed limbs
the crocuses coming up through the soil
wanting to bloom, to blossom
the strangest winter, mud in the yard
not the snow but the wind
not the shoveling but the warm breezes
rain when there normally is snow
this will I look back on
in times long from now
when I remember
the strangest winters
I have seen so far
