A Suitable Companion

from his body, his rib
God making a helper, a champion
someone to complete him
to get the job done
following his heavenly plan

So much of our lives wasted
thinking we alone are able
needing someone beside us
to lighten our load

Needing to trust
to look to our partners
our spouses, the ones
who have been put on our path

God is our helper, also
the spirit within us
Christ leading the way
guiding us each day

Going before us
if we would but follow
trusting in God
not in our own abilities

God’s love in picking
our special someone
like Eve to Adam
for us alone

If we will trust him
follow his callings
in our marriage, our lives
how much more
would together achieve
