God where we do not expect Him

God is where we find Him
in unexpected places
where we are open
to sense His holy presence

In the face of strangers
in the opening of a bud
in the smallest feature
a piece of the divine

God is ever present
if we can but see
His love right with us
within our beating hearts

What we cannot say

The Christ could say
what we could not say
the consequence of his story
the words so clearly there

That we must give up
abandon our wealth
the rigid strictures of doctrine
guided by love instead

We are on this journey
to learn Christ’s simple message
that the path to life
is in loving one another

The Import of His Message

The like we know
the control we believe
what we think we have
charting our own course

The import of His message
what the Christ meant for us
to change our lives completely
to walk in faith, in trust

Turning to Christ
to the way of the cross
forgetting our false ritual
focusing on the Christ

Offering hope to our neighbors
love even to strangers
giving up all we have
that keeps us from one another
that separates us from God

The spiritual life
the journey of faith
a life of the Spirit

seeking opportunities
to offer Christ, radically
bringing us to our knees

Yearning for Your peace
wrapped within Your wings
rest in the struggles
what this world may bring

Walking with You ever
following the Christ

Challenged to Change

Our lives a journey
of discovery, of wonder
challenged to change
our focus in life

To leave beyond the temporal
that with no lasting value
to put our treasure in heaven
a reward worthy of our faith

Following Jesus,
the way of the Christ
ever as Your servants
our Savior, our brother
our risen Lord and master

Journeying here
following your example
loving our neighbor
conformed to your commands
that all would know our God

Oh the things we learn
if our eyes are open
our hearts ready
for the blessings of God

Discovery on this journey
moving within us
speaking to our spirits
God touching our lives

Hope in his deliverance
from this mortal coil
our lives ever with him
when our time is done

When we are finished
at the end of this journey
ready for your blessing

Helping those who cannot help themselves

We must face the fact
that we fail to be Christians
believing that God only helps those
who help themselves

God is the opposite
believing in kindness
helping those who cannot
who are unable to help themselves

The canard of this world
the belief in self-reliance
the arrogance that the clay
is better than the Master

We are humble bits of dust
breathed into life by God
we should be helping all those others
who need our loving care

We should be Christians
by emulating Jesus
offering love to all we meet
crossing to their side of the street
offering them Jesus

Stopping on the Road

Unlike those before us
holding onto their faith
denying their brother
passing him by in life

Needing to see our neighbors
the people in our lives
stopping for the stranger
in need, in struggle

In Adversity

In adversity, the measure
the depth of our faith
continuing on the journey
holding onto the Christ

Looking to our Father
the source of all that is
leaning on the Spirit
to be with us in this

Going where we are called
continuing on our journey
walking with the Christ
carrying our cross

Bearing persecution
standing for the right
speaking the words of the Christ
and following His example
all the days of our life

Christ formed as God’s partner
the agent of creation
the first-born of all life
the Word alive
joined with God
starting the universe
all that ever was
all that there is
all that will be

“Logos and Light” are the main ideas John uses in this poetry.
The Christ of Christmas is so much more than a cute baby.

Joy Along the Way

Joy in each moment
in the unfolding of the story
in the coming of Christ
anew to the earth

The revealing of God
in the babe in the manger
in the man who walked with us
healing our brokenness

Joy along the way
in this our faith journey
leading us to You
ever and always

Smiling in our struggles
in our interactions
offering Christ to all
all whom we meet

Sharing our Joy
especially in this season
witnesses to all
that God has given to us

Joy in this moment
in each step forward
hastening the day

Peace in this Season

Comfort in this story
the telling of God’s love
of the coming of Jesus
the descending of the Christ

Peace in this season
sensing You near us
in the fulfillment of Your promises
when Love came to the earth

All of this world
the hustle and bustle
offset by the knowing
of the truth of Your grace

Defeating all worry
the ultimate evil
redeeming us completely
from the way of all flesh

Never truly dying
a transition to a future
through the gate of Christ
we come to You, oh Lord

Peace in our trials
in the comfort of Your embrace
walking beside us
on the journey of this life

Joy to the Saddened

God’s comfort
His abundant healing
His presence redeeming
bringing us hope,
sight to those who are blinded
joy to the saddened
mired in this life
Leading us ever

The Christ of the Cross

The Christ of the cross
the man in pain
the unblemished lamb
burdened with our shame

Going to the garden
picking up the cup
submitting to God
drinking it up

Mocked and tortured
hanging on the tree
dying abandoned
that we all would be free

Going the way
of all human flesh
yet rising to heaven
to give us true rest

The Christ of Power

The Christ, of God
from the beginning
before the earth began
living as the Word

Descending from heaven
drained of Godliness
love poured down
walking as a man

Serving God
in teaching and healing
walking with us
to show us the Way

God alive
living among us
though we could not see Him
for who He really is

Going the way
the way of suffering
drinking that cup
humble to God

Going to the cross
descending below
rising on the third day
to fulfill all prophecy

Coming in power
in His glory
Christ will come again
riding on the clouds

the coming of Christ
down to the earth

The Word alive

The little baby
not the focus
the Christ of Christmas
far more than this

The babe, the symbol
the love of Jesus
emptying out His nature
to descend to the earth

The Word alive
the scriptures fulfilled
the light of God
descending to the dust

Rising as a baby
to walk beside us
teaching us how to be holy
how to live by God’s Word

the loving Savior

To fulfill all prophecy
only to rise to the heavens
one day to return
in royal majesty

Fulfilling the word
the life of the Messiah
dying and rising

Giving his life

The silence of that morning
the women going silently
to the cold tomb
Wondering how they would go
to tend his broken body
wondering how
the story would unfold

The silence of that morning
broken in an instant
the shock, the wonder,
what could this mean
the stone was rolled away
the linens in a pile
and the Lord was not there

the couple gathered round
staying in the stable
no other place to be found

Alone and scared
far from their home
waiting for the coming
the coming of the Lord

While We are Waiting

While we are waiting
for the natal star
the story to unfold
of the babe in the manger
the return of our King

While we are waiting
God has never left us
the Creator of the world
of all our humanness

God is here with us
ever, even now
the risen Christ dwelling
in our hearts, if we will let Him

living water giving us life
