With the one whom he loved

A tender telling
the story at the cross
at the feet of Jesus
his words spoken to us
more than to these two
his mother and the disciple
with the one whom he loved
writing to us still
how to care for one another
those whom love Jesus
to see each child as our child
each parent as our parent
