calming the frightened deer

the eyes of our clients
panic in the hallway
the steps of the court
as an animal, a deer
caught in the woods
nowhere to run
the wolves on the hunt
not knowing what to do
only wanting to run
calming the frightened deer
to bring them back
regaining some composure
some semblance they are man
supposedly governed
by reason, by thought
yet for an instant propelled
back eons of life
returning to a more primitive state
where law has no meaning
not knowing what to do
only wanting to run
