Our dinner was delayed - v2

Our dinner was delayed - v2

She was nonplussed

I was enraged,

I wanted justice;

We were being ignored

our dinner was delayed

Our ticket still on the carousel

above the grill, the station,

our order untouched

as others were being served

sitting in the italian restaurant.

She was black, I was white,

grabbing a bite to eat

waiting to see our pastor

going through couple’s counseling

before we could marry in church.

She was nonplussed

I was incensed, wanting to rail

at the injustice, that we were ignored

that others were being served

who came in behind us.

Our dinner was delayed

but this was nothing, minor,

common place, normal;

This was nothing she hadn’t seen

so many times before.
