In the road - v3

hey have something to tell us
though I am not quite sure of what, as of yet,
a discarded, a blown, a lost palm frond,
landed on the white pavement
more than a week ago.

Bright green in the middle of the road
alive at the start of this story
becoming less so in time,
morphing to army fatigues, to khaki,
staying in the same spot each day.

Shrinking from the dying
the wicking of moisture, the attacks,
flattened by the constant assault
of cars running over the branch
yet still not moving from its spot.

They were there again this morning
driving the girls to work;
but becoming more like a mat
woven with papyrus fibers,
wondering how long they will last...

Now the size of the mop
that Mickey conjured
as the Sorcerer's Apprentice;
Much smaller than the broom
leaning by the fireplace
that Cinderella used...

Long arms reaching outward, upward

https://raymondafoss.blogspot.com/2022/06/long-arms-reaching-outward-upward.html

I took a picture this morning of the southern pine trees

on Whisper Creek Boulevard

here in our complex;

I was brought back to a conversation in 2004ish with

Rev. Orin Watson at Wesley United Methodist Church,

In which I talked about my writing poetry,

after one of the bible studies he had lead.

He commented that, “anyone can write a poem about a tree”;

but that as a Christian poet, I should seek to convey something

about God in the poem…,

So here you go Rev. Watson…
