Why don’t I believe You forgave me, Lord – v3

How can I claim to believe, to have faith,
to trust in You only, when I doubt,
when I hold onto hurt, onto confessed sin,
Do I believe, am I truly a Christian,
how can I continue to carry
what I have left You in prayer,
my sin, my guilt, my shame?
 
Why don’t I believe you forgave me, Lord,
that you truly love me, yes, me,
that You died on my cross to free me,
that You forgive me of all of my sin,
no matter how far I had fallen,
how far from You I have wandered,
how far, how long I have run away?
 
Why do I pick it up, take it back,
that which I gave to You in prayer,
my pain, my sin, my shame,
old chains that I have carried,
when You have buried them in Hell,
before You rose to save, to redeem us,
before You were lifted, now seated on high?
