Why don’t I believe You forgave me, Lord

How can I claim to believe,
To trust in You only,
Am I truly a Christian,
How can I continue to carry
That which I have left You in prayer,
My sin, my shame, my guilt?
 
Why don’t I believe you forgave me, Lord,
That You died on my cross to free me,
To forgive me of all of my sin,
No matter how far I had fallen,
How far from You I have been,
How far I have run away?
 
Why do I pick it up, take it back,
My pain, my sin, my shame,
The chains that I have carried,
When You have buried them in Hell,
Before You rose to save, to redeem us,
Before You were seated on high?
