#sisters in #arms – v4 #poetry #love #ArmWomenNow #StandWithUkraine #Ukraine #Defenders #Victory #Peace #women #daughters #InternationalWomensDay #sacrifice #patriotism

On the front lines, in the trenches,
bandaging the wounded,
rising in the ranks to leadership,
defending their country,
fighting for its right to exist...
They stand with their brothers
the best daughters of Ukraine...
May we honor their call...

There is metal in their words
in their lives, their choices,
for they sacrifice their dreams,
in fidelity to their country,
standing in the breach,
suffering with their nation,
giving their lives for their people,
but never losing themselves...

They are sisters in arms, together,
warriors in this battle, united,
standing beside brothers in arms,
joined together, as one people,
to defeat Russia’s evil, this terror,
fighting valiantly, courageously,
against twelve years of genocide,
for their nation to survive...

They may be in body armor, on the front,
but they have never lost their womanhood,
their femininity, their beauty, power...
They choose to sacrifice, to give,
living for their country, their people,
unsure of the future, in this struggle,
But they stand sure in their purpose,
their call, to stand vigilant, on point,
as the tip of Ukraine’s spear...

sisters in arms – v4

Edited because a defender asked me to write about
women fighting in defense of Ukraine, in response to me sharing my poem,
“Разом об'єднані “, “Together United”:
“Thank you so much. It is very important to write about women warrior.
It’s a big part of our defence.”
This poem was originally written after reading post by defender of Ukraine
about serving as a woman in the army,
for International Women’s Day, March 8, 2025

The Creed he lived by – v2

The Creed he lived by
repeated, repeated,
being part of something,
greater than himself…

Plunged into service,
into love, sacrifice,
conscious of his flaws,
giving of himself…

The Creed he lived by
part of America,
The Dream, the vision,
of who we are as a people…

The Creed he lived by
repeated, repeated,
being part of something,
greater than himself…

applause like rain – v2

In the midst of her pain,
in her grief, her profound loss
as she spoke words of love
for the man, her father,
saying these words, his creed,
that “America was always great,”
in the great cathedral…

Listening to these words,
hearing the response
applause like rain, thundering,
echoing off the marble
hard-wood boards of the pews
the fabric of our nation
testifying to what we believe…

repost - The Banner of Freedom – v4

The colors of our country
How proudly they wave;
So much sacrifice
Freedom’s price to this day.

Our nation’s ideals
For this it stands tall;
That we would remember
The cost of Freedom’s call.

repost - Raising the Colors – v5

Running to one court, a quick filing,
before racing back to the office,
for a swallow of coffee, gathering papers
and another hearing at another court
that same day.

But between these, the motion of the day,
Stopping, pausing, watching;
Standing still, reverent,
for the raising of the colors
before the first courthouse.

A moment of reflection, pausing,
caught in the bright morning sun;
Time standing still;
Grateful for where I stand,
for the courage they showed.

Thank you for your service – 2 – v2 #VeteransDay #Thankyouforyourservice

Noting her license plate in the parking lot,
striking up a reverent conversation,
talking to the customer before me,
asking about her, her husband’s story.

She is the widow of a Pearl Harbor Survivor,
one who witnessed that horror, that loss,
seeing the flames that fateful day,
of history changing course.

We talked about his passing,
about the life they made together
how he struggled at first with the memories
what he went through in that moment.

They lived a long life together
many anniversaries, two children,
happy days, the American Dream,
before his recent passing

I said a heartfelt farewell,
“Thank you for your service”,
for what he sacrificed,
what they each endured,
for our God and our country.

in their words about him – v2

Conjuring another time,

a moment not so distant,

kindler, gentler,

more merciful, more civil.

In their words about him,

remembering his vision,

of a world kindler, gentler

more merciful, more civil.

So recently, truly,

in the arc of time, history,

but so far from this current time,

filled with anger, division.

“Cindy McCain helped lay a wreath at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial

at 9am today ahead of her husband's funeral service at the

Washington National Cathedral. People have since left flowers,

American flags, a paperback book, POW hat and
