Joy in Their Dying – v2

A reminder of eternity
their best before their dying
the rich colors of autumn
before the eternal season
dying in a blaze of glory
in joy and thanksgiving.

Joy in their dying
in the falling of the vivid leaves
eternity awaiting after this life
to walk with our Savior
hope overflowing
like waters of a spring.

For you and me, perfection
at the end of these days
walking with our Creator
in the courts of glory
alive, new colors abounding
in eternity, in heaven.

A palette beyond comprehension
far greater than this foretaste
remembering in their dying
new life will come to each
new clothes, new bodies,
in the courts of heaven.

We are the leaves on the trees
growing in our season, walking on the path
hopefully in the brighter hues of autumn
before dying gloriously;
Garbed for eternity, for the new garden,
the New Jerusalem
where we will walk again with God.

Blaze orange on the end cap – v2

the stores laid out
the things to grab quickly
fly dope, bug spay
maps and compasses
things for the deer camps
the lodges, the cabins
all quick, within reach

impulse buys different
up here, up north, by the woods
apples and tortilla chips
yes they are familiar
something I have seen before
but usually a different placement
further from the front door
further out in the store

blaze orange on the end caps
right by the door
caps, vests, jackets
bug spray and blankets
ready for quick purchase
a dead moose, heavy
a trophy on display
in the pickup out front

Stripped of the Green

peeling off the world
the mask of summer
stripped of the green
exposing the true colors
the many shades of autumn
hidden for a season
so we are to be
authentic in our journey
true to the cross of Jesus
stripped of the world
open and honest
showing our true colors

His Palette of Autumn – v4

Rich, bold, stark colors
burnt umber, cranberry,
goldenrod, peach, cornstalk
vividness of the season
God’s artistry so evident
in His palette of autumn

bright lines of color
ablaze, alive, shimmering
calling to us, to see,
to hear God’s call, His whisper

layer upon layer, radiant color
living hue upon hue, flowing,
all of them shouting Your praises
to You the Creator of the universe

all of creation singing one song
to Your majesty, to Your grace
showering beauty on the world
knowing in this season more than some

that like leaves, in their perfection,
in their brilliance, this season
scarlet, burgundy, blaze orange,
singing to You at the end of life
in dying our victory, eternal
to see You in the courts of glory

His Palette of Autumn – v4

Rich, bold, stark colors, urgent
vividness of the season
God’s artistry so evident, so real
in his palette of autumn

bright lines of color, clear
ablaze, alive, shimmering
calling to us, to see, to look
to hear God’s call to us

layer upon layer, radiant color
living hue upon hue, flowing
all of them shouting your praises
to You, the Creator of the universe

all of creation singing one song, glorious
to your majesty, to your grace
showering beauty on the world
knowing in this season more than some

that like leaves, in their perfection, briefly
singing to you at the end of life, holy
in dying our victory, eternal
to see you in the courts of paradise

In Brilliance Dying

Faithful to their calling
humble to God’s plan
living and in dying
submitting to his will

In brilliance dying
at the end of the journey
called to their eternal home
rest in the new kingdom

Where there is no more dying
in perfection, all to be clear
all the mysteries of this life
seeing his face in our own eyes
drawing near to God

In the First Breath of Autumn

Going outside this morning
the crispness, the bite of the morning
quick against my nose
in the first breath of autumn
my exhaling visible
caught in the still air
as I went down the stairs
ready to start the day
to take the girls to school
so soon the cold to come
the leaves to fall heavy from the trees
the snow on the way

In the Whispers of the Leaves

In the whisper of the leaves
the song of their colors
to speak a word of love
of the glory of God

The majesty of his creation
evident in the shimmering
the vivid leaves of autumn
right before their dying
in perfection, in beauty

Rising in the mists
the eternity beyond time
the spirit rising
up from the ground

All of us like the leaves
living on the earth
growing in the waters
the living waters of God
dying in our season
with Christ eternal birth

Joy in Their Dying

A reminder of eternity
their best before their dying
the rich colors of autumn
before the eternal season

Joy in their dying
in the falling of the vivid leaves
eternity awaiting after this life
to walk with our savior
hope overflowing
like waters of a spring

For you and me, perfection
at the end of these days
walking with our creator
in the courts of glory
alive, new colors abounding

A palette beyond comprehension
far greater than this foretaste
remembering in their dying
new life will come to each

We are the leaves on the trees
growing in our season, walking on the path
hopefully in the brighter hues of autumn
before dying gloriously
garbed for eternity
for the new garden, the New Jerusalem
to walk again with God

Antlers in the Marsh

The ancient oaks
long losing their leaves
their branches shattered
the bark bled away
the wood underneath
turning like ivory
antlers in the marsh
standing like sentinels
waiting for the hawks
to find a place to alight

A Gust of Leaves

Maybe the wind
yet all my eyes saw
a gust of leaves
falling, rising
spinning in the air
