Liquid mud flats - v2

Crossing over the causeway, looking far below,
seeing the tidal motion, the turning,
the sunlit water, the in-between times,
the changes, the moving in and out.

Liquid mud flats, growing, glowing in the sun,
just outside the channels, the waters,
the languid, the speeding, boats in the intercoastal
showing the changes for a moment in time.

A liquid slurry, drying, between the rushes,
the tidal vegetation, the sea birds in flight,
maybe a boat at rest, at anchor,
chronically the time slowly going by.

in the changing moon – v3

God’s hand visible
unseen but movement
in the rising and falling
of the waves, the tides,
in waxing and waning
in the changing moon
the order of the universe
shining the sun’s light
in the night sky
the turning repeating
seasons, in time, moving,
the motion regulated
like the tides, the moon,
controlled by the Creator
written in God’s plan
the phases of the moon
in God’s loving hand moving.

Wet Stones

Sheltered by the rock jetty
the waves pounding on the shore
turning the stones,
wave after wave
making the rough way smooth

So our lives
in the trials of this world
sheltering in God’s love
our rough edges made smooth
turning us closer to him

The Smooth Stones

The beach different
not coarse sand
of rocky outcroppings
smooth stones
glistening at the water’s edge

Polished smooth
contours not edges so much
an expanse of curves and rolling
exposed by the receding tide

Remembering those moments
walking down to them calling
feeling the cool waters
caressing my feet

The rounded stones
curved under my arches
firm footing because of their heft
calling me further
to the smaller pebbles
further out
at the edge of the tide
