Out in the #Woods - v5

A space in the dark untrammeled woods

Off the path untraveled, forgotten,

Under the watch of maples and birch only

A bed of lady slippers, clustered like a twin-bed

Lit with filtered spring light.

Planted for me to find

By myself, with my thoughts only;

Discoverer, tromping through the mud of the season

near the lost stone wall, a rusted wagon wheel

and a forgotten bale of barbed wire.

Nestled, planted, by the lean-to I built

To get away for awhile

Where I stayed overnight;

Exploring the hill,

the bank below the rocks.

I could find it still, I believe

I’m sure; I’ve shown others. . .

Because magic can be held

and finding it means you can again

out there in the woods.

A bed of lady slippers - v3

A bed of lady slippers - v3

Not just a few, scattered,

a twin bed of lady slippers

in the woods, the clearing,

beyond our lean-to

made of scraps and pieces.

A place for rest,

of light, of beauty,

a single mattress

a place for one

out in the woods.

Framed with light

rails, a head board,

so many lady slippers

a place off the path

above our house and home.

A bed of lady slippers - v2

A single bed of lady slippers

in the woods, the clearing,

beyond our lean-to

A bed of lady slippers

a bed of lady slippers

in the woods

beyond the lean-to

a place for rest,

a single mattress

a place for one

seeing its own head board

a place off the path

above our house and home.

A Lean-to in the Woods - v2

A Lean-to in the Woods - v2

A bed of pines, of leaves,

corrugated metal for a roof

and snow fencing walls

a tin of pine-needle tea

brewing on the open fire.

A place of refuge

out in the woods

just up the hill

off the path, in the deep

just up from home.

A place for reflection

sanctuary in the city

close but away

from the day to day

from school, from home.

The warrens in the attic

 The warrens in the attic

Remembering the ancient lift

the counterweights, the cables,

using my arms, my body

to rise to the heights,

within the building.

The warrens in the attic

two by fours and chicken wire

holding tenants’ storage,

new freight of the business,

and broken, discarded typewriters.

Missing panes, clouded windows

another room of empty boxes

So cold in winter,

sweltering in summer

animatronic dolls for the front windows

Moving cartons of acetone, overstock

of reams and reams of papers

Pfaltzgraff plates and dishes

driving the two-wheeled dollies

across the boards, the paper

the corridors in the attic.

In our wandering, our purpose - v7

In our wandering, our purpose - v7

In our path, our living, in our way

our daily steps, our life’s journey

we find meaning, we find fulfillment,

abundance, filled to overflowing

in our wandering, our purpose

our calling, the writing, our path,

our way is already written by Almighty God.

In our path, our walk, in our journey,

in reflection, in hindsight, seeing

we are filled with gratitude, abundance

in our steps, our detours, our wilderness

our wandering in the world, the desert

we find a life of fulfillment, joy,

our way is created by our loving God.

Our way is made blessed, justified,

redeemed, made worthy, holy,

our journey in abundance, in gratitude,

blessings in our struggles, our trials,

our wandering with meaning, purpose,

teaching us through tradition, our experience

our path is made clear by sovereign God.

We are informed in our walk, on the journey

if we will hear, if we listen for God’s voice

the Spirit breathing, musing, speaking

to our spirit, to our being, our essence,

our way, our path, our steps forward

preordained, predestined, made holy

our way is blessed by eternal God.
