boundaries – v5

A framework, a border,
a wall, a keep, safety
boundaries, guardrails
a hedge of protection

A line defining
who we are, really,
boundaries to keep out
the enemies, predators

Lines to lead us
to Almighty God;
boundaries of comfort
boundaries of challenge

Lines to lead us
away from the world
boundaries, guardrails
a hedge of protection

Boundaries to follow
commands for our walk,
leading to heaven
at the end of this life

boundaries, choices
a line we won’t cross
“I will not do that;
that isn’t right.”
boundaries to define
to protect us in life
a line in the sand
that we won’t cross.

venturing forward

safe within the walls
the pews of the sanctuary
but venturing forward
beyond the church walls
an artificial divide
an imaginary boundary
the church extending far beyond
its place on the map.

room to grow

space to breath

yet open, ready
not cages to wall out
to divide God’s people;
boundaries to build
a connection, attachment
held within the arms
of our loving Savior

rules, boundaries – v3

freedom bound
by the commands of Jesus
to love only God and
our neighbors as ourselves
to love as Christ loves us
without condition, or cost,
rules, boundaries
to guide us in our walk

the rules to help us
not to harm us
to cage, to tame us
rules, boundaries,
“Thou Shall Not’s”,
lines in scripture
we shall not cross
to guide us in our walk

the rules identify us
to show we are followers
disciples of Christ
freedom bound
to guide us in our walk
out of love, mercy;
gathered one day
to our home above.

Less of the negative

media glorifies
encourages chaos
violence, sex, junk food
for our minds
soulless candy
of the flesh, of desires
needing to change
to save our lives

less of the negative

glorifying sex
the baser stuff
needing to focus
to challenge ourselves
to center our lives
on almighty God

Ripples of Our Actions

As a chalice poured
as stones cast
into a still pool
our words, our deeds
all of our lives
Ripples of our actions
spreading through time
a witness to our believing
what we hold dear
revealing our hearts
the guiding of our path
unfolding, spreading
over the sands of our time

Our salvation, redeeming
not by our efforts
because of his mercy

embodied, living

poured out, cleansing
cleaning our whole lives
Justified through grace
by the sacrifice of Christ

We wait for the blessed hope

Our lives now guided
by God’s sound teaching
in love and grace given
by the teachings of Christ
we wait for the blessed hope
the promise of his coming
returning to this earth
to bring us home to God
for now disciples
walking here in love
filled with his teaching
our walk in this life
Mindful of his sacrifice
his body, his blood
given to redeem us
from our past, wickedness
making us whole, worthy
through the gate of the cross
bringing us to heaven
our place in paradise
