Christ was spirit until this moment,
just as God the Father and God the Spirit,
together before there was time…
Christ was with God the Father,
with God the Spirit, One…
 
eternity became mortal,
descending into Creation…
God Himself entering time…
Now forever human, eternal,
Seated on His heavenly throne…
 
The Babe that was laid in the manger,
Jesus held in Mary’s arms…
The man who climbed our cross,
who suffered and died for us…
Jesus, who was raised on high…

God the Father spoke a Word -
Light to pierce the chaos
to create, to build from nothing,
the universe, life, all that is,
to make the sacred order…
 
God spoke Light into the world
descending to earth from heaven,
the Immortal made mortal,
Eternity made flesh,
Emmanuel, God with us…
 
God is here with us,
Abiding, now living inside us,
The Christ child, the Messiah,
Spirit, all of eternity, of peace,
in the Word of Light… Jesus…

The Power of Her Faith

To go, to give
to serve, to live
the power of her faith
to change the face of the earth
to lead us by her example
to go and serve in love
She came to the altar
with two humble coins
giving all she had
humbly, to the Lord
offering an example
of true faith in life
trusting in the Lord to give
everything she needed
all she needs in life

The Mystery of Her Gift

We cannot understand
we won’t comprehend
the mystery of her gift
what it means to me

The power of her faith
beyond my feeble mind
leaving all to God
trusting in him

All she had she gave
in the offering plate
on the altar cloth
unto our sovereign God

Believing in him
that he would provide

The coins, but a metaphor
so small compared to the other offerings
but so huge, in metaphor
giving all she had,
because of her faith
loving dependent
trusting in God alone
so much more than all the others
giving all, out her poverty
not a tithe out of their wealth

Fragrant to God

More beautiful than orchids
a scent beyond imagination
her offering, her gift
fragrant before God
Offering all she had
out of her poverty
out of her faith
giving to the Lord
herself, all she was
in the giving of the coins
an offering fragrant to God

The Widow’s Gift

Her simple coins
change for some; all she had
offered to God in faith in trust
relying on God
for he will provide
All of our needs
more than our daily bread
our cups overflowing
grace upon grace
pouring on us
This faith in her act
her giving of all
a reverent offering
fragrant to God

It isn’t much

Walking down the aisle
a fill-in usher this morning
this Sunday in church
a visitor, asking for prayers
a widow, living out the scripture
offering more than the rest
all she had, as she said these words,
“It isn’t much; but it is all I have”
These words, an apology to me
a testimony, a witness to her faith.
I thanked her for her gifts
loose change, all she could give
A lesson for me alone,
living out the words of scripture
a widow’s gift indeed

A Widow’s Gift - Blog Action Day

A widow’s gift, our of love
out of the depth of her faith
more pleasing to God
than all the others, all the powerful,
the pious, the rich,
not to its value
but for its worth, its holy worth,
the meaning in the way she gave
when compared to theirs
She gave out of her poverty, all she had,
they from their wealthy, a meager portion indeed
She gave all, all she had
they gave a proportionate share
She gave out of real faith
they gave, we give, too often, for form, for show
