Before Our Dying – v2

Do we resemble the leaves
shining in witness, bright colors,
singing to our Creator
our praises bursting
shouting from the treetops

Do we recognize
the moments of the seasons
that our days are numbered
yet known only to God

Our time is precious
here on this journey
called by our Master
to serve out in the world

Needing to learn
the lessons of nature
the precision of the Creator
setting all according to His plan

Here for our time
to teach us the lessons
drawing us to Him
that we may serve

Joining all creation
shining brightly
witnesses to grace
in our time on the earth

Sharing with the leaves
the brightness of autumn
the seasons of our lives
before we leave this earth

The beauty of our sharing
God’s love descended
of following God’s commandments
the judgment at the end
when we look into God’s face

tilling, watering, nourishing

caring for the soil
for the soil of human hearts
tilling, watering, nourishing
bearing God’s great love
caring for the soil
for the soil of human hearts
bearing God’s witness to them
sharing God’s great love

planting our gifts

planting our gifts
the seeds of God’s grace
the word imprinted in us
God’s grace pouring out
out of the joy inside
planting our gifts
the talents of God
given to us to share
sowing the seeds
to the ends of the earth
to everyone we know

Sowing richly

scattering freely
sowing richly
the seeds of God
sharing fully
planting deeply
anchored in the ground
scattering freely
sowing richly
the words of our King
nurturing, caring
that new life may begin

Wildflowers - 2

a calling to sow our seeds
the fruits of God’s blessing
God’s word, richly
out into the world
an image more of wildflowers
not vegetables in neat rows
beauty in the chaos
that how our garden grows

Planting, New Life

a new season, new year
a calling to greater mission
Planting, new life
seeds for the kingdom
God calling us to journey
to plant our gifts richly
to share God’s loving message
being light to the world
Planting, new life
new hope in the Savior
God’s plan being fulfilled
in the planting in the kingdom

maybe too limiting
the language of planting seeds
an image of a neat garden
each seed in a row

caring for the soil

tending the garden lovingly
tilling the loam, the dirt
caring for the soil
that it may embrace the seed

giving attention to the ground
to the soil of each heart
watering, nourishing, caring
readying them for the word

in each human heart

Signs that we are open

Maybe a sandwich board
standing before the church
maybe people on the sidewalk
someone to greet

Something we might be doing
signs that we are open
wanting others to come
to come before the Lord

All of our days worship
yet wanting to gather
all of our neighbors
into the house of the Lord

Needing to be purposeful
to shine the light out there
beyond the walls of the sanctuary
out into the world
