Carrying their sticks with them - v2

Seeing them walking forward
The young, the old, the others
All with one goal, one purpose,
Like watching sharks from the shoreline
Or maybe only seeing fish out of water
Never seeing them in their natural habitat
Where they live, they thrive.

Crossing the parking lot, at all hours,
Every shape and size and color
Carrying their sticks with them
Some like guns to a gunfight
Others like quivers over their shoulders
Different gaits, different affects,
Until they enter the door.

Only, later do we see
The slight swagger of the victors
After the games, the tournament,
The constant honing of their craft.
They engage in friendly banter
All part of the fellowship
United by the sticks that they carry.

Diatomaceous earth

The pool needing cleaning, vacuuming,
scrubbing up the algae, the leaves, the needles,
making it less than pristine.

Scrubbing, cleaning, stirring up
clouds of chaos,
settling back to earth.

Diatomaceous earth
the backwash overflowing my feet
The yard alive with wriggling,
a bumper crop of earthworms,
gathered for the river, or left for the robins
watching in the trees.

bursting from the water

the hummingbird rising
like a phoenix from the ashes
suddenly born to new life
bursting from the waters
the feathers and
droplets numbered
alive in color and motion
up from a watery grave
