skin of an ancient reptile
conjured from a DNA sample
a city-scape of the arteries
and capillaries
seen in close-up, under the
microscope,
far from its razor-sharp
teeth
alive in the image, this
moment
captured before it withered
separated from the vine, the
life-force
knitting it within time, in
space,
in the blessings of this
place
supple leather of the leaf
revealed before its soon
dying
pulling the eye to drink
to revel in its beauty
fleeing though it may be
