giving Satan power

some say evil
others the evil one
yet the prayer from these words
only speaking of evil
giving Satan power
denying the fact of the Devil
that our struggle is not of this earth
fighting with the fallen one
the angel from the sky
the prince of the earth
trying to bring us down

Blood Moon - v4

The moon, a day before full,
hung suspended low to the horizon
above the tree line
hauntingly, disquiet settled on us
It wasn’t the buck moon this day
No it was a Blood Moon,
a harbinger, a foretaste
a glowering presence
hanging here before us
pasted against that sky

Sky still and ashen gray
thick with clouds
crimson and amber
a film a screen,
a lens over our vision
unsettling and intriguing
a foreboding presence
like passing a car wreck
looking for the twisted metal
praying for those people

Blood Moon – v3

The moon, a day before full,
hung suspended low to the horizon
just above the tree line
something not quite right
drawing my eyes from the highway
hauntingly, disquiet settled on us
It wasn’t the buck moon this day
No it was a Blood Moon,
a harbinger, a foretaste
burnt orange and crimsons
Awakening the awful power
across the glowering sky
Sky silent and ashen gray
thick with clouds, foreboding,
as if spawning thunder and fury
Thin enough for the ash to yield
to the dark blood moon
A face menacing, round and terrible
unsettling and intriguing
the woods aglow in crimson amber
the world on edge, stricken,
like passing an active car wreck
looking for the twisted metal
Praying for the people

Give us this day our daily bread (2) – v2

More than a line in prayer,
a call of trust in God
a prayer for our actions
to serve each other
our neighbors
all around the world

All of us coming
to the table of the Lord
to be fed, restored
all of us needing
his help, his saving word

We join our savior
his teachings to apply
when we offer others
their daily bread
by our loving acts
when we truly share

we have been weighed in the balance – v2

we come in confession
before our God
in the time of reflection
that we may be restored
following the steps of Jesus
looking within
hope in the journey
that we may truly live

in our inward selves
we know we are wanting
failed to be faithful
strayed in our walk
we have been weighed in the balance
we have been found wanting
not faithful in our calling
straying from your path

like our ancestors before us
questioning Moses
we have been weighed in our conscience
we have been found wanting
God may judge us
to him we are transparent
an open book failing
to do your holy work

our hearts have been hardened
unhearing, unfeeling
ignored the cries
of the weak, the needy
walking upon them
seeking wealth and power
we have chosen false idols
over our neighbors

an indictment, our reflection
a harsh mirror before us
if we are honest, truthful
we have neglected to do good
when it was in our power
failing to be loving
to care for our neighbor

I have grieved Jesus

I have ignored him
I have turned away
from the calling of Jesus
pretending not to hear him
lost on my path

I have ignored him
choosing destruction
years and years wandering
separated from God

I have rejected him
Jesus, my Savior,
too comfortable in the world
I have turned my back
on the call of Jesus

A willful child
passive – aggressive
seeking my own path
in the way of the world

forgiveness or judgment

who chose and exalted

How do we respond to Jesus – v2

How do we respond to Jesus
do we even know him
do we have eyes that can see
will we hear him

Are we like the Pharisees
the leaders of God’s people
are we comfortable with power
do we see him as a threat

do we believe, do we fall
at the foot of the cross
worshiping our Savior
all of our lives

are we changed by his presence
His Spirit within us
do we rise form the waters
and walk with the Lord

We need a change

our lives stuck
mired in the clay
in the dust of the earth
wandering aimless
not knowing where to turn
We need a change
to turn ourselves to God
in this season, this moment
to turn our lives to God
