Warming blue
Across the arc of the dome
He left for us after the Flood
Daubs of color
Dabbed on the sky
Pristine edges
Glinted and glowing
Past dawn
Frozen breath
Frost on the
orange, red, yellow
Fall foliage
Green grass
Cold windshields
Parked cars

Red Sox in Four
Eight straight
ain't it great
A nation in joy
because of our boys
Won in strong fashion
with luck, pitching and passion
A night with a lunar eclipse
song of joy on our lips
Here's to the Red Sox Nation
in a state of utter jubilation

Waking Sky
A fall sky in slumber
warming fan brush strokes,
horsehair bristles,
pushed across the fall tableau
Deep burgundies and dark below
Headlights on
Down the road
round the bend
the view brighter
champagne and plumb and wisp
a bluing of the sky
Another wind
down the twisting backroad
translucent yellows
screens of color
Farther on
white takes the stage
above a fireball flame sun
Then the sun filled
the windshield below the visor
warming my face
on this fall morning
after the dark
warming fan brush strokes,
horsehair bristles,
pushed across the fall tableau
Deep burgundies and dark below
Headlights on
Down the road
round the bend
the view brighter
champagne and plumb and wisp
a bluing of the sky
Another wind
down the twisting backroad
translucent yellows
screens of color
Farther on
white takes the stage
above a fireball flame sun
Then the sun filled
the windshield below the visor
warming my face
on this fall morning
after the dark

Her Name
Her name on my lips
her song in my heart
A marathon finished
waiting for laurels
A race won but
New beginnings
A new life
new challenges
mountains to climb
Together

(first poem about Ruth)
her song in my heart
A marathon finished
waiting for laurels
A race won but

Hair Cut
A grand presentation
the three of us
early one Sunday morning
just before Easter
A grand march
with appropriate solemnity
orange Easy-Bake Oven mixing bowl
festooned in his outstretched hands
with her locks, curls, hair
Safety scissors
weren’t really safe,
now were they
from little hands
and minds with industry and mischief
Bows that would have to be taped
to hide the artistry of these craftsmen
a little too successful in their trade
Shock of the audience – mom and dad
woken from slumber
to the sight
of our grand presentation
that morning.
