Out of the Clear Blue Sky
The sky was so clear and blue today
it took my attention away
from the walk to the bank
where I needed to go
Water in the air
makes me stop and stare
at the blueness there is
in the sky, the edge of the dome
The arc of the sphere
we hold so dear
The water planet he saved
from the flood.

Globe
I saw this glass globe on the counter at the New Hamsphire Federal Credit Union in Durham, NH this lunch hour. The teller said it was from a shop in Washington, DC. It is nice having a digital camera.

Toxic Gumbo
I see the pain on their face
The water all over the place
It is terrible to see
I ache inside of me
Far north from their plight
I hope they all can take flight
To escape the pain they feel
And know our prayers for them are real
We know You can touch their lives
To make sense of their devastation and loss
So watch over them all we pray
And hold them close to You each day
Dear Lord, hear this plea
That they can be free
Of the loss they know so well
In that toxic gumbo of hell
The water all over the place
It is terrible to see
I ache inside of me
Far north from their plight
I hope they all can take flight
To escape the pain they feel
And know our prayers for them are real
We know You can touch their lives
To make sense of their devastation and loss
So watch over them all we pray
And hold them close to You each day
Dear Lord, hear this plea
That they can be free
Of the loss they know so well
In that toxic gumbo of hell

Fuzzy Swears
Some have heard of “fuzzy logic”,
that “powerful problem-solving methodology (blah, blah, blah) …”
(no, not just what Shanequa or Erica uses on me,
though they do make me go huh)?)),
and I just saw a set of fuzzy dice driving down 101 Friday night
on the rear view mirror
in a vintage canary yellow 1940’s Chevy Coupe with NH plates
all buffed and polished for the tourists
But what about the everyday villains, the subtle stalkers,
The fuzzy swear, curse, cuss
Foul language in spun candy
Words to spit with less spin, less bite
A bit of fancy
“Fudge Ripple Ice Cream”, “Oh Milk Bones!”
“Prune Whip” (ooooh that is a good juicy one)
Where harsher terms of art
May struggle, balk, jostle
to roll off the tongue
Clipped by place, norms, conscience
And others squirt out
to smirk, chuckle, cringe, and fluster…
Fuzzy, cuddly words
Where others would play

Menacing Insects
A big fat black dirigible of a fly
careening around the office
buzzed me, like a test pilot and the tower.
I could feel its clumsy wake
Before it landed on the wall taunting me to strike back
Carol said, “They’re huge this time of year,
you could almost put a saddle on them,”
The banter reminded me of the June Bug
that flew into the tip of my nose
last week on the walk to my car
Leading me to laugh at the silliest workers’ comp claim in history
When I got whiplash from the impact.
Oh what the paperwork would have been
