The Stigma of Difference – v6

The stigma of difference
little things really
setting us apart
a stain upon us
in their jaundiced eyes

a shame the way we divide
ourselves from one another
when we are all one
fallen before the Lord
each of us sinners
all of us lost in the world

we need to remember
none are better than any other
all of us with feet of clay
needing Christ to have life
to find rest in the Lord

Human Rights – v2

Basic human rights
to love and to live
offered to each one,
only by the Father to give.

We cannot take them
for they are not truly ours;
but we can harm them
if we do not show love.

We are called to service
to love God and to our neighbor
to not judge another, an other,
but to offer the world hope.

We are messengers of our Savior
witnesses to His power,
able to heal us with His sacrifice
to raise us from the dead.

We must not be stumbling blocks
fetters on our neighbors’ feet;
we should be fitting them
with wings on which to fly.

Final Exams – v3

Let’s see, what were those courses,
in our seminary this semester;
Oh yeah, they were -
Betrayal, abandonment, death,
and Christ’s resurrection.

At the end of three years,
following the Master,
this was the sprint to the finals,
our moments of confusion, of not feeling worthy
of running away, of waiting at the cross,
fearing after Friday, of hunkering down
only to feel the joy of Sunday,
of that first Fourth Day.

Out beyond the grave
with the Spirit coming
to give us power
new-born Christians
about to embark on the Way.

Sparkling – v3

Sparkling, glistening snow
refracting the street light’s glow
Discrete colors of glitter
a fleeting rainbow
captured in the crystals
swirling, falling, rising,
in the dance, the rhythm
of the falling snow

Simple Faith – v2

Nothing showy
drawing attention
demanding Christ
to focus on herself

Simple faith
merely touching
the fringe of His cloak
healing her within

Nothing showy
special or formal
Christ healing her
through her faith

By Your Living Waters – v2

In our journey of faith
away from the world,
changed from our old selves,
transformed by Your Word

Washed by Your living waters
our sin trickling away;
Washed by Your living waters
adding more and more each day

may their hearts be open – v2

May their hearts be open
their focus fully on You;
Focused on the words, Your voice,
Your calling to them

May they hear Your word
in the words of others;
May they each be a vessel
empty, open to You

may rest come – v3

may each of them be engaged
may they be fully present
in this journey, in their days
in these moments of love

may rest come to them
to restore their bodies
may they be at peace
during the dark of night

may they be revived
may the Spirit rest upon them
in these moments set apart
gathered in the circle

may rest come to them
to restore their bodies
may they be at peace
all the days of their lives

May their burdens be lifted
may they leave their cares
at the foot of the cross;
May them be empowered
to spread Your word

May they be filled with love
may they pour out their past;
may they thirst for Your word,
oh, may they be Your disciples,
