The arms of the evergreens - v4

The arms of the evergreens – v4

Looking down the highway,

seeing the image repeating

something out of the ordinary

the way the pines were standing

alive, reverent, yearning

reaching up to heaven

in a chorus of praise.

Feeling something special

an image, personification,

something profound, shining,

beyond the shoulders, the embankments

looking into the distance, the margins,

beside the highway, the woods,

as we traveled north, toward home.

Seeing pure worship, reverence,

in each tree, their branches,

the arms of the evergreens

white pines mostly

raised, outstretched,

the sentries by the highway

watching the clear road.

Their arms outstretched, uplifted

craning, reaching, raised up to heaven

open arms singing, joy-filled

a holy praise, worship,

proclaiming the glory

of the sun, of the seasons,

of our Creator, our Lord.

Seeing pure reverence, worship

in trees beyond the shoulder

their arms outstretched, prayerful

a wingspan, a gathering,

leaving no doubt, urgent,

ready for eagles, for sunlight

for Spring soon to come.

Thin ice, open water - v3

Thin ice, open water - v3

anticipating this moment

driving over the river

hoping to see a change

a hit of spring to come

thin ice, open water

on the Penobscot

the temperature above forty

but not yet fifty

as it would be later

snow melting quickly

thin ice, open water

on the Penobscot

life changing quickly

time marching onward

about to leap forward

just a few days further

thin ice, open water

on the Penobscot

driving by, looking,

wanting to see this changing

at the vistas, the landscape

marveling at the turning

thin ice, open water

on the Penobscot

soon green grasses

smells of spring, of summer

dark waters, people, vacations,

a million, a cascade of senses;

but for today thin ice, open water

on the Penobscot

At mile 213

on the highway northbound

a glade of birches

filling the median between

bending toward the south

Erect trunks rising

clear all around them

creating a visual staccato

a beautiful sight

At mile 213

just to the left

no place to pull over

bands of plum, of amethysts - v5

bands of plum, of amethysts - v5

I felt a need to go, to see,

stepping outside to look

the sky, off in the distance,

beyond the wires, the lot, above the woods,

a combination of warm and cool colors

caught between day and night.

Rich, broad brushstrokes

bands of plum, of amethysts,

magenta, dusty rose

and wisps of smoke,

were written, layered together,

to see, to feel, to drink.

There was a whisper across the heavens

fading colors of the sunset

the dying of the light

after sunset, second sunset,

a time of twilight before darkness

the full blooming of night.

bands of plum, of amethysts - v4

bands of plum, of amethysts - v4

feeling a need to go, to see,

stepping outside to look

the sky, off in the distance,

beyond the wires, the lot, the woods,

a combination of warm and cool colors

caught between day and night

the broad brushstrokes

bands of plum, of amethysts,

magenta, dusty rose

and wisps of smoke,

written, layered together

to see, to drink

a whisper across the heavens

fading colors of the sunset

the dying of the light

after sunset, second sunset,

a time of twilight before darkness

the full blooming of night
