to the Mount of Olives - v4

Christ returned to the Mount of Olives
with His disciples, less Judas,
a place He regularly went;
a place to pray, to be near to God,
leaving the upper room.

Walking across the Kidron Valley,
opposite the Temple Mount;
the seat of their power,
the Romans, the priest, the Sanhedrin,
journeying to the garden, Gethsemane.

Bowing to pray, crying out to God,
in human pain, in anguish,
“Take this cup from me!”,
but submitting in the garden;
“Thy will be done.”

walking through the Kidron Valley – v2

walking through the Kidron Valley
with Jesus, their Lord, their Master,
from the Passover, the upper room,
to the garden, Gethsemane,
after Judas ran into the night,
confusion filled their hearts.

walking in silence, in sorrow
at the words of Jesus
how they would all desert Him
how they would run away
these truths as a weight they each carried
as they journeyed with Christ that fateful night.

God did not look away – v2

God did not look away
during the journey of Jesus
from Galilee to Jerusalem
from the mountaintop
to the valley below

God did not look away
Christ’s journey in the city
from parade on Sunday
to the shouts to crucify
the living Son of God

God did not look away
in those last twenty four hours
God was there with Christ
in the final earthly journey
from the upper room to the tomb

God was there
in the Garden of Gethsemane
before the Sanhedrin
with the guards
and at the cross.

God watched
Christ’s suffering
the judgment laid upon Him
our sins placed upon
the unblemished Lamb

God was with Jesus
from the garden to the tomb
God did not look away
God watched His Son
pay the price for Man.

Christ met me there – v5

In the pit of my sin
estranged from God,
nothing I could do
nothing I could give

Christ met me there
more than I can comprehend
what it meant
that He would descend

Choosing the cross
to become clay
dying so I may live
preparing a way

No Price for His Love

More than we can truly understand
that there is no price for his love
God freely giving
all that I ever need
even going to the cross for me
paying my cost with his life
the lamb, my brother
no price do I owe
but my humble praise
turning, conforming my life to him
in thanksgiving to my king

This hour has come – v2

This hour has come
the die has been cast
all to be fulfilled
now was His time
the moment at last

“Rise! Let us go!
Here comes my betrayer!”
spoken by the Master;
the Shepherd captured
the sheep run away

the tempter whispered – v3

the tempter whispered
to Adam, to Eve
in the garden, in Eden,
when they failed to believe.

the tempter whispered
to Christ in the wilderness
to turn from His path
that led to suffering, to death.

the tempter whispered
to Jesus at Gethsemane,
another garden, a different choice,
to choose submission, utterly.

the tempter whispered;
but Christ was stronger,
staying on the course, the path,
that God had planned for Him.

I am the source of life

“Being itself comes from me;
I am the source of life.”
Such was the answer of Jesus
making His “I Am” statement
stating He was the Christ,
the long-awaited Messiah
when Caiaphas put Him to the oath
to only speak the Truth.

tearing the sacred vest

tearing the sacred vest
the sign of his priesthood
the ancient vest of Aaron
in response to Jesus
in claiming His name
that HE was the Christ
tearing the sacred vest
a moment of high drama
deeming Jesus guilty of blasphemy
for stating the truth.

Evil present, stalking
all of the living;
Evil speaking, seeking,
to harm, to destroy

For evil to triumph
only needing silence;
The righteous afraid
unwilling to speak.
