as the sun rose over Jerusalem
Christ was led from his cell
where He had been held
brought before Pilate
to the seat of Roman power
Jesus had been condemned
by the priests, by the leaders
the Council, the Sanhedrin;
but not yet a Roman crime
punishable by death.
Christ was charged
with insurrection, rebellion,
claiming He was a King
a threat to Rome, to Caesar,
that was their charge
The priests, the Sanhedrin,
the leaders of the people
bringing Jesus to Pilate -
the Lamb prepared for slaughter
by defiled pagan hands.
