Another #Shabbat with too many missing

Another week ending, pausing,
stopping the daily struggle, this madness,
touching their history, their story,
Opening the Torah, remembering God.
 
Dusk falling, fallen, gathering into worship,
remembering creation, the hand of God,
but too many missing, a peace shattered,
Like the night of Kristallnacht, horror raging.
 
Too many killed, injured, too many stolen, taken,
by an enemy, terror, coming to their homeland,
a place of peace, of sanctuary, yet no rest for the People
Another Shabbat with too many missing, shattered.
 
But a resolve palpable, even in stopping,
in pondering, remembering all that God provides,
a moment, a day, of rest from their labors,
Knowing there is so much yet to be done…

A #Shabbat with too many missing

Dusk falling, fallen, gathering into worship,

Remembering creation, the hand of God,
But too many missing, a peace shattered,

once we were perfect - v3

once we were perfect,
innocent of sin;
we walked with God
in the cool of the evening.
 
then sin entered,
the fruit, the snake;
Adam and Eve were
cast out of the Garden.
 
but God was cast out
of all of creation;
our sin too great a barrier
to our continued communion.
 
God, the Father,
only in heaven;
the breach healed
by Christ, our Savior.

God is not here

God is not here
on earth but in heaven;
God no longer walks with man
in the cool of the evening.
 
In a sense it was God
who was cast out of the Garden;
God no longer rests His feet
on fertile ground.

Sealed by the Lord ' v2

The Lord was the one,
who saved him and his family
the animals, the birds, all creation
from wrath. from the flood, 
from the cleansing
the cleaning of the earth
They went according to His will
into the unknown, into the Ark
and were sealed in by the Lord.

All Adam’s Children

All from the one father

whatever our color now

all his offspring

related somehow.

We all have the same mark

the stain of our sin

that is why Jesus came

to help us live again.

All from the one Father

across time and space

the Creator of the universe

in our neighbor’s face.

God Came Again – v2

The babe in the manger

was not the first time God

walked on the earth,

shared breath with creation,

with mortal man

It was the Garden, the holy garden

when God and Adam and Eve

were together, able to see

and be seen, to feel the warmth

of God with them in person

Before the fall, the shame,

the stain of the first sin

Breaking the bond

the iniquity plain

Never the same, shattered

until the Father was the Son

and Jesus was born in Bethlehem

Come to save us

to heal the breach

A dance in the heavens
a minuet around the sun
the planets in their orbits
held by God’s love

The Beginning of Wisdom

In the beginning, we were afraid
we knew our nakedness
biting into the flesh of the fruit
of the forbidden tree

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom
the psalmist wrote, oh so long ago
We forget so often
forget He is a jealous God
forget our weakness without him
walk in our own paths
for a separate false idol
graven images and temporal pleasures
Opportunities of epiphany lost
in our self-reliance

Cleave to the Lord
follow his commands
love one another
share in the Good News
Hear His still voice
burning within you now

Fear of the Lord
your awesome power
to judge, to love

you the Master of all.
a righteous fear in my heart.
