God washed over me

a calming peace

my prayer given to him

a mighty release

Trusting in his hand

in his presence with me

over her bed

in the dark in the quiet

I mouthed a silent prayer

as she fell to sleep

hoping that tomorrow

would be a brighter day

that the troubles, the sorrow

would somehow fade away

painted with grains of sand – v5

hills alive in morning

painted with grains of sand

dipped in winter light

pure sparkle, diamonds

on every filament, fiber,

on every blade of grass

facets of ice crystals

twinkling as I drive beside

holding God’s light, as a prism,

sparks of living color, glinting

fingers of Jack’s paint strokes

dipped, cast, in frozen white

hills alive in sunlight

shimmering, the fields afire

morning just begun, waking

illumined within

filaments of sparkle

painted before the sun

when Christ displaces worry

at the center of your life

able to breath freely

to walk into the light

baggage cast aside

that which held us back

giving it away

peace in that center

shape worries into prayers

the phantoms, the monsters

straw dogs we craft

give them to God

to the fires they are destined

shape worries into prayers

they are but illusions

freeing us in the process

Christmas is a day, Advent is a season

when we disparage Christmas

the selling of the holy

superficial religion

focusing on shopping

we must remember

the balance of the equation

Christmas is a day,

Advent is a season

Time if we make it

in holy waiting

holding onto Advent

even beyond the season

Waiting for the coming

the return of Christ

because he is the center

the reason for our worship
