From day to sunset – v3

The sun’s daily progression,
there at the horizon, the sky,
from day to night to day again,
the sphere of the Earth,
The arc, our mortal coil…
 
From day to sunset coming,
from sunset to twilight melting
from twilight to dusk falling
and from dusk to night, darkness,
The curtain is drawn, to sleep…
 
The arc, dome of the sky,
a canopy of stars, the universe,
the measure of the horizon,
a changing of the guard,
Getting ready to begin…
 
Now night gives way, the stage,
from night to dawn breaking,
from dawn to Twilight melting,
from Twilight to sunrise, waking,
Finally, from sunrise to the new day…

Just before #Dusk - v2 #poetry

Falling from the higher ground
down toward the city
out of the sunshine
just before twilight, dusk.
 
The light warmer, the air,
an amber glow surrounding,
quickly receding behind me
driving down the highway,
longing for, heading home.
 
The vibrant colors turning,
a washed monochrome
melting into sameness
before the coming of night…

A Hint of Lilac – v2

At the edge of dusk,
the sky cooling slightly,
a pink glow rising,
with just a hint of lilac…
 
Before the darkening came,
After dusk’s amber light,
the sky alit in softer hues,
before the coming of night…

The gray of the fencing

Like an ancient elephant
a tough living hide
the gray of the fencing
long untended
no paint or primer
aging in the sun
the wind etching
no signs of termites
dry wood showing
every fiber
the grain of the planking
turning ancient
in the autumn light

Bronze Sky

In my rearview
a brighter shade
not like before me
washed in an amber hue

The bronze sky behind me
casting warming colors
the sun yet ablaze
to light our way

Heading from home to home
so many memories
family, sharing stories
the warming of the sky
before the coming of twilight

East of the Amber Sky

We descended from the hills
down toward the city
the lower lands of our state
east of the amber sky
Heading to twilight
or was it dusk
below where the sky was alive
with a warm amber glow

The world, the land
washed in amber
the light warmer
before its fading
washing the world
in an amber glow
on top of the reds,
the oranges
the green while it lasts
in the changing of the season

At the edge of dusk

Losing Color

The vivid color fading
the horizon losing color
heading toward dusk
at the falling of the sun

The reds and yellows
the greens and oranges
losing their precision, definition,
a patina of gray
washing over the land
before the sunset
the dawning of the night
