I read the metal of her words
her life, her choices,
sacrificing her dreams,
for fidelity to her country,
her life for their lives,
but never losing herself...
 
sisters in arms, together,
warriors in the battle,
standing beside brothers in arms,
United together, one people,
to defeat this evil, this terror,
fighting valiantly,  courageously,
for their nation to survive...
 
Never losing their womanhood,
femininity, their beauty, their power,
but choosing to sacrifice,
living for their country,
sure in their purpose, their call,
to stand vigilant, on point...

hearing an extra word
richness of meaning
what is important
in a word unspoken
in the call of holy scripture
in the words of the living Christ…
 
“Come to me, all who are weary,
broken, who are hurting,
and I will give you rest…”;
but the word most important
unwritten, unspoken
from the mouth of Christ…
 
how we come before God,
the condition of our hearts,
that is what is matters,
the word repentant unspoken;
but that is what is important,
when we kneel before Christ…

finding kinship with each other,
our broken brothers in Christ,
longing to ease their pain
in their walk in this life…
 
sensing their pain, authentic,
coming up beside them
in service to one another
within our own brokenness…
 
in service, helping one another,
in sharing our lives, openly,
offering help to each other
in the trials of this life…
 
together we grow stronger,
each of us helping each other,
the servants and those being served,
in the journey we are sharing…

turning a page in my life, healing,
handing them my yoke, the chains,
the struggles I carry in this life…
 
change my heart, oh God,
to conform my way to Your steps,
letting others into my life,
into the places that I dread…
 
how I long to turn a page, to heal,
to let my past be my past,
to walk with You, oh Lord,
on the path You wrote for me…
 
change my heart, today,
bring me real healing, redemption,
help me conform my steps to Yours,
so that I will follow Your leading…

Betrayal – v2

Betrayal, everything I feared,
coming alive, unfiltered, unfettered,
no guardrails, no adults in the room,
no one to say no to the bully, the tyrant,
only sycophants and yes-men,
all feeding the monster, the demons,
that swarm within his spirit, his body,
evil guiding his words, his actions,
ready to tear everything down…
 
Calling our ally a mere proxy,
a nation indispensable, expendable,
dividing our people against each other,
throwing away our morality, our faithfulness,
the whims of one man, without conscience,
a soulless vessel, a cypher, a nothing,
holding onto raw power, a false might,
deceiving our nation, our people,
that he cares for them when he does not…
 
Betrayal, only getting started,
for our nation, our people, our allies,
all that rely upon on our strength, our resolve,
our willingness to stand in the breach, the gap,
to champion liberty, democracy, freedom,
but he will not accept responsibility,
for his words or for his actions,
turning our people against others,
all those who rely on our strength…

I feared this day would come,
when I have to say these words
my hope turned to despair,
over the treasure we have lost…
 
we have become what we abhor
another face of their enemy
complicit with their genocide
the taking of innocent blood…
 
there is no neutrality in terror,
in the genocide they are committing,
we have turned our backs on the victims,
of their terror, this awful genocide…
 
we have become what we abhor
not fighting against their evil,
attaching the victims, the martyrs,
we carry the stain of innocent blood…
 
I pray we wake up from this nightmare,
that the demons would be put back
into the opened Pandora’s Box,
that their evil would be defeated…

There is no #neutrality in #genocide – v2 #America #Russia #Ukraine

We have become evil, drenched in blood,
taking off our mask of neutrality, of friendship,
choosing that which we abhor,
coming up beside the murderers,
our Enemy, this people, their dictator,
aiding Cain in murdering Abel,
abandoning all pretense, lies,
our words meaningless, no ally,
becoming what we dread…
 
We have become evil, drenched in blood,
choosing our enemy over their victims,
for there is no neutrality in genocide,
in this fight between good and evil,
those committing terror and their victims,
innocent blood that is being shed,
lives erased, cities destroyed, attrition,
all for the imperial lust of their dictator,
the madman in the bunker, the one we abhor…
 
We have become evil, drenched in blood,
taking off our mask, any pretense,
no longer failed allies but enemies,
of these innocent people, this nation,
standing against the tyranny, the terror,
screams of missiles, drones in the night,
we have chosen the murderer Cain,
over his brother Abel, these people,
fighting for freedom, survival above all else…

coming up beside each other
turning a page in my life
handing them the yoke, the chains,
struggles I carry in this life…
 
change my heart, oh God,
to conform to Your steps,
letting others into my life,
places that I dread…
 
how I long to turn a page,
to let my past be my past,
to walk with You, Lord,
on the path You wrote for me…
 
change my heart, today,
bring me real healing,
conforming my steps,
so I would follow Your leading…

ruts in our paths,
familiar patterns, our steps,
our willfulness, not trusting,
trying to live our lives on our own
away from God,
making a mess…
 
we must walk a different path,
conforming our steps,
walking with God,
climbing out of our ruts,
giving God control,
His will for our lives…

Despairing has power,
desperation is good,
knowing how deeply,
we are broken, vanquished,
how we need the love of God…
 
Desperation is good,
so pain won’t define us,
releasing everything,
to Almighty God,
the One who can save us…
 
No longer seeking isolation,
desperation is good,
now seeking, longing,
for the love of God,
His grace redeeming our life…

If #Russia is not stopped in #Ukraine – v2

We cannot live in delusions,
wishing away reality, this truth,
hoping peace will come quickly,
that the stars would align,
that his lusts would be vanquished,
that his goals would be quieted,
peace of its own according rising,
that the leopard would change its spots…
 
The brutal warlord, the man in the bunker,
this mass murderer of his people, of nations,
bent on genocide, on terror, on destruction
of one of its closest neighbors,
He will not stop, he will not relent,
giving up dreams of empire, of expansion,
willing to destroy everything, everyone,
happy to govern scorched earth…
 
If Russia is not stopped in Ukraine,
if Russia is not defeated, now,
Russia will not stop with Ukraine,
attacking other nations, other neighbors,
seeking to fulfill, to achieve,
subjugation of other people, lands,
to reconstitute a defeated empire,
that lives in his fevered dreams…

"The present memory of that day" is both 2/24/2022 for Ukraine and Ukrainians
and 2/14/1991 for me personally. I am using my experience of detailed visceral
images of lifting the blood and brains of my father to give even a touch of
authenticity to this poem, merging my conversation with one defender and
the words of that other defender yesterday to write "touching bleeding flesh "

If #Russia is not stopped in #Ukraine

The brutal warlord, the man in the bunker,
the mass murderer of his people, of nations,
bent on genocide, on terror, on destruction
of one of its closest neighbors,
He will not stop, he will not relent,
giving up dreams of empire, of expansion,
willing to destroy everything, everyone,

Russia will not stop with Ukraine,
