Under Armour, Under Grace

Free from my sin , living free,
under armour, protection;
I am under grace because of Jesus,
the loving sacrifice of God

Walking with Christ
the Spirit within me;
We no longer fear the grave
because heaven awaits

Christ’s sacrifice, His choice
taking on my sin;
an offering, holy and pure
balancing the scales

My stain is washed clean
in His arms I rest;
We are secure and safe
knowing heaven awaits

One Meal – Blog Action Day – v5

This Book of Acts, concrete steps taken
the Acts of the Apostles
valuable lessons for this age,
for this time in our lives;
In these uncertain, troubled times,
maybe community can rise again
out of the ashes of our disjointed,
our separate, unconnected lives.

All together, at one table, sharing
one meal, one prayer, as one
they lived, worshiped, they ate together;
A single life the lives of the apostles
out of their wealth they gave,
out of each one’s need they were given
early believers on the way
the followers of Christ.

Sharing all, around one table,
to spread Christ’s message
to bring God’s love
out into the world;
Bringing their lives together
one community, one meal
In meals shared, in sacrament, in community
seeing Christ in our neighbors.

We share in their legacy
we share that table with them
all of them, no charge
gathering here with us;
One table, one meal together
offering Christ to them
the least, the last and the lost
those different from us.

wash us with the water – v4

Wash us with the water
of God’s Holy Spirit;
Cleanse us with
the Baptism of Christ.

Heal our broken bodies,
our failures of faith;
Strengthen our conscience
God’s Spirit, His voice.

Washing with the water
God’s Spirit now within us;
May the Breath of the Creator
revive, empower us.

Send us as a message
carrying Your light forward;
Going out into Your world
bearing Your likeness.

May His be my Answer

A prayer on my journey
that I would be open as he was
ready to do God will
to be His witness
in this time and place.

A question from God
to which he was quick to answer
burned by the embers;
He was made clean,
he was able to speak.

Offering his service
boldly answering
a question from God -
“Here I am. Send me.”
Let me be your servant.

Ready to say as he did,
“Here I am. Send me.”
Open to the call of God
even when it is a question,
“Who will go for us?”

A Rainbow of Hope - v3

I heard an urgent call, a shout,
I raced down the darkened stairs
I saw a flicker of color as I ran outside
and then I saw it, a gift,
an arc, God’s bow, His promise
shining down on us.
Standing in awe and wonder
the rich color muted over the city.
It curves over the alley
above the tenements, the wires
the clutter, the stresses of life.
It was a timely reminder
in good times and bad
of Your faithfulness,
Your covenant with Your people;
a beautiful arc, a shimmering bow
hovering above us.
A pleasure to behold
a piece of hope placed
for a moment, a few seconds
there in the sky above us.
The rainbow was unnoticed by so many,
lost in the push and pull
of daily living, their own struggles.
It was truly shared with those lucky few
who stopped for a moment or two
and looked up, at your handiwork,
at Your rainbow of hope.

being intentional in our hearts – v2

Being intentional in our hearts
not just going through the motions;
Seeking the Holy Spirit
to reignite our hearts

Being intentional in our walk
in study, in service;
Drinking in the Word
to fulfill our holy purpose

Being intentional in our lives
not just going through the motions;
Living out our faith
in each step on the journey

Sow Peace – v3

Filled by the Spirit
Guided by Christ;
Informed by His love
Walking in His ways

Called to sow peace
to walk gently in this life;
Letting the Spirit guide us
into the light of Christ

Not to hold grudges
small or great hurts;
Give them to God
so you can walk

Called to sow peace
to walk gently in this life;
Letting the Spirit guide us
into the light of Christ

I am preaching it because I firmly believe the best time to consider matters such as this is when tensions are not high and we can reflect on good spiritual practices that can keep our relationships healthy.  The middle part of Matthew 18 offers a good plan for conflict resolution.”
