Revealing its true colors,
Treasure in its simplicity,
golden color held in her hands,
normalcy of the change of seasons,
simple moments of reflection,
ignoring the chaos all around,
the war, the continuing storm…
 
One leaf gathered up from the field,
held, cupped in worn, tired hands,
treasure in its simplicity, purity,
a beautiful messenger, a whisper,
a harbinger of autumn, a prayer,
a foretaste of the coming winter
the cold soon to come…
 
Like the wheat, the sunflowers,
the colors of this nation,
held so loosely, gently,
normalcy in simplicity,
yellow below a fall-azure sky,
emblematic of Ukraine,
their nation, seeking peace…

the skin of an ancient reptile – v5

bright green, various shades,
the skin of an ancient reptile, conjured,
a DNA sample, reborn, alive, a cityscape,
of arteries and capillaries, pulsing,
in close-up, under the microscope,
far from its razor-sharp teeth…
 
a creature, a life force, reborn,
alive in the image, this moment,
captured before it withered, dying,
separated from the vine, water, life-force,
knitted within time, in space,
in the blessings of this place…
 
supple leather of the leaf, its flesh,
the skin of an ancient reptile,
revealed before its all-to-soon dying,
pulling the eye to drink, to linger,
to ponder, to revel in its beauty.
fleeting though it may be…

Falling from the higher ground
down toward the city
out of the sunshine
just before twilight, dusk.
 
The light warmer, the air,
an amber glow surrounding,
quickly receding behind me
driving down the highway,
longing for, heading home.
 
The vibrant colors turning,
a washed monochrome
melting into sameness
before the coming of night…

A Hint of Lilac – v2

At the edge of dusk,
the sky cooling slightly,
a pink glow rising,
with just a hint of lilac…
 
Before the darkening came,
After dusk’s amber light,
the sky alit in softer hues,
before the coming of night…

a wet forest – v3

a wet forest, clouds,
color, saturated,
intense, urgent,
giving to my lens…
 
sharing its secrets,
beauty in the commonplace,
deep into autumn,
clocks soon to fall back…
 
wet leaves underfoot,
a muted carpet before me,
colors fading, dying,
but revived by the water…
 
light saturated, living,
drawn by the water,
revealing the secrets
beauty in the commonplace…

wet leaves underfoot – v5

suddenly feeling the call
drawn to the woods, urgently,
to leave the office space
the chair where I was writing,
to breathe wet air, to drink,
going outside in the mist
out beyond the edge of the yard…
 
stepping from the grass
wet leaves underfoot
a soft, muted carpet
colors fading, autumn,
browns and pale yellows
but revived by the water,
evergreens and mosses vibrant, alive…
 
the woods beyond, as if behind a curtain
another realm, another dimension
in the awakening, the journey,
the revealing to me
sharing its secrets
deep into autumn
the clocks soon to fall back…
 
damp woods, clouds
color saturated, bleeding,
intense, urgent
almost iridescent, bright,
giving to my lens, my camera,
to my presence
wanting me to see fully…
 
light bursting forth, shining,
from leaves, moss, from rock,
drawn out by the water
a different color spectrum
revealing the secrets hidden
sharing something special
beauty in the commonplace…

A perfume of autumn – v2

Beside the alley by our home
on the way to their school
hanging on the fencing
rich in their dying
the grapes heavy on the vine.
 
Left by other planters,
long ago abandoned,
a bit of the wild
in the urban setting.
 
Grown on the vine,
oblivious to the blessing,
left for wild creatures,
to reap the fall bounty,
a perfume of autumn.

Within the arms of the cedars

A place set apart, a living prayer closet,
a carpeted room, a space,
within the arms of the cedars,
where I enter into worship.
 
A circle of sorts, a cathedral,
a natural enclosure, alive,
where I can pray, meditate,
where I can commune with God.

Into the #cathedral of the #trees – v4

I am sitting at my desk, pondering, struggling,
longing for peace, for a spirit of calm,
but I was captured by the images,
the flickering screen, news, chaos.
 
I leave care, my day behind me, going outside,
stepping beyond the grass, the margin of brush,
into the autumnal forest, resplendent, precious,
bathed in varied color, in diffused light.
 
I enter a time, a place of worship, sanctuary,
reverently, into the cathedral of the trees
focusing on the sky above me, the canopy,
grace, abundance, singing from my knees.
 
Years later, looking at the images, I remember well,
those precious moments, these woodlands,
every tree displaying their worship,
their bodies, their arms lifted to God.

At moments such as these,
at twilight, in muted light,
in hush of the autumnal forest,
leaf litter underfoot, caressing,
Wooing, silencing my steps...

At moments such as these,
a mere walk in the woods
becomes a pilgrimage,
touching God, brushing,
fleetingly, against time,
Entering, kissing eternity...
